Policy and Plan

1. WILD LONDON TRUST
>Living with bees and wasps:
'The benefit that bees and wasps provide the gardener and farmer far outweighs any nuisance they might cause. There is also growing concern that the number of bees is declining due to the spread of disease and changes to the countryside. There is therefore a good argument for taking measures to encourage them. The London Wildlife Trust recommends that we try to live with bees and wasps and only attempt to interfere when they are causing a serious nuisance'.

2. GOLDSMITHS - SUSTAINABILITY IN CONSTRUCTION AND REFURBISHMENT POLICY

>The College commits itself to:
'Protect natural habitats and encourage local wildlife and biological diversity of the College’s managed land'.

>Biodiversity:
'Biodiversity Conservation Landscape areas play a major role within the College structure by enhancing the external environment. This is demonstrated throughout all the College sites with the interacting of plants, birds, mammals and insects within the Campus sites. The development and growth of Biodiversity is continual as the College environment changes'.

'All construction plans will be in line with the Colleges Biodiversity Action Plan'.

3. GREENING GOLDSMITHS
   Environmental Improvement Works at Goldsmiths
>Bee Hives:
'To increase our biodiversity at Goldsmiths, we are due to get a colony of bees in mid June'.
'Richard Groves and Michael Dick are attending a weekly beekeeping course funded by the Co-op as part of their PlanBee scheme to increase the number of honeybees in the UK'.
